Welcome to Waldo
County
Waldo
County formed part of York County's territory until 1760, when
Lincoln County was established, which included it until 1789,
when Hancock County was established; this next held it until
1827, when, on February 7th, it was incorporated as the County
of Waldo, and was named for Gen. Samuel Waldo. The establishment
of Knox County in 1860 took off from Waldo County the towns of
Appleton, Camden, Hope, North Haven and Vinalhaven.
The
present boundaries of Waldo County include 26 towns and 1 city:
the city of Belfast and the towns of Belmont, Brooks, Burnham,
Frankfort, Freedom, Islesborough, Jackson, Knox, Liberty,
Lincolnville, Monroe, Montville, Morrill, Northport, Palermo,
Prospect, Searsmont, Searsport, Stockton Springs, Swanville,
Thorndike, Troy, Unity, Waldo and Winterport.

We have moved and we have a new
look. Our website is now located on space graciously provided by
the Maine GenWeb Project. Also, after many years we have decided
to give our site a new look. All of the pages have been
re-formatted, they have had some color added to them, and
navigation buttons have been included to facilitate moving around the
website. We want to thank Rootsweb for all the years of hosting
our site. Any comments or questions can be directed to

Please take a moment to welcome a new volunteer
to our ranks. Gail Sanborn has generously offered to share her
times and talents to this site in regards to the great little town
of Burnham. She brings over thirty-eight years of re-
searching and collecting data for her town. She will be a
great boon for those who are delving into their family histories in
Burnham. Her e-mail address can be found on
http://www.waldo.megenweb.org/tlline8content.htm. Thank
you and welcome, Gail. 16 Aug 10

After all of these
years of maintaining the same e-mail address (and griping
about those who haven't), I have been forced to change mine, but
only because my server has changed. My new address is very
similar to the old. You can now reach me at
tombstone.tom@frontier.com. Note that the only difference
is in the ISP, not in my name. I do hope that this doesn't
cause anyone too much inconvenience. 16 Aug 10

It is reunion time again at the Maresh home:
If you would like an
invitation by mail, let me know, with your mailing address,
and I'll send you a copy. See you in August. God bless,
Isabel
Calling All Friends and
Relatives to the 2010 Maresh Backyard Reunion
Hannan-Hannon, Morse,
Boynton, Marriner, Lermond, Heal-Heald,
Friends, Relatives and All
I’ve already received queries
as to when the Annual Reunion will be, so here it is! Write
the date on your calendar. We will again meet, the Lord
willing, in our backyard on the second Saturday in August,
which is August 14. For those who don’t know, “our
backyard”, is the home of Bob and Isabel (Morse) Maresh at
169 Howard Road in Belmont, Me.
There will be a pot-luck
lunch. We will provide the essentials: paper plates, plastic
eating utensils, cups, coffee, tea, cold lemonade and water.
We will make a large potato salad, baked beans, and
sweet-`n-sour meatballs. Bring a casserole, salad, soda,
chips, dessert, or whatever your specialty is. It would be
nice if you also brought the recipe. Also bring an item for
the auction, which is held to help with the expenses. For
the past few years, a donation from proceeds has been
donated to Greene Plantation Historical Society for a
special fund. Those attending look forward to the auction,
and some items have found new homes. Also bring a chair to
sit on.
Last year I put out the word
that if you came early to help with set-up, it would be
appreciated. I wrote about it in my Christmas newsletter.
The early birds were many, and the backyard was a ‘bee-hive’
of activity, with people setting up canopies, tables,
washing lawn chairs, setting tables, and getting everything
ready. The kitchen was no less busy, with people putting
together potato salad and deviled eggs, making lemonade and
all that needed to be done. It took a lot of pressure off
us, and everyone had a good time.
Bring Grandma, Gramps, aunts,
uncles, and cousins by the dozens. Last year we met some
great new relatives, who we have kept in touch with. Be sure
to come back, and bring siblings.
Who’s coming? It started out,
many years ago, with Hannans-Hannons, and Boyntons. Through
the years we’ve added the vast Morse Clan, Marriners,
Lermonds, Heals and Healds. Since we are all related, it is
a hodge-podge of relatives. We’ve had so much fun that we’re
inviting friends, neighbors and anyone who wants to become
one of ‘us’, and listen to the tall tales; to eat, and to
watch yet another generation play in the old apple tree and
swing on the swings.
Bring your family history,
your family photos to be scanned, and “show and tell” items.
Hope to see you all on the 14th
of August. God bless,
Bob &
Isabel and the Maresh family

In the summer of 2009, Bev Winship undertook the
task of updating my father's (Norman R. Elliott) cemetery records
for Pleasant Hill Cemetery. She has generously offered her
findings to me for posting on the Waldo County USGenWeb site.
I have commenced posting those records on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery
section of this site. To follow my progress, please observe
from

There is a new biography on site,
courtesy of Isabel Morse Maresh. This time, we get a peek into
the life of John Odell Hannon of
Liberty. You may find this short biography
here along with
many others. Thank you again, Isabel, for another outstanding
